Board Member Job Description

Responsibilities of the Board The mission of PicklePlex® is, in collaboration with partners and providers, to maintain state-of -the-art facilities to promote the growth of pickleball. Our focus extends beyond members to embrace players in our community and visitors globally. As the highest leadership body of PicklePlex® and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, steering the organization toward a sustainable future, the board is responsible for:

• Determining the mission of PicklePlex® and understanding its collective purpose
• Selecting, supporting, and contributing to the performance evaluation of the staff leadership (currently Operations Manager)
• Strategic and organizational planning
• Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
• Fundraising and resource development
• Approving and monitoring PicklePlex®’s programs and services
• Enhancing PicklePlex®’s public image
• Assessing its own performance as the governing body of PicklePlex®
• Ensuring legal and ethical integrity

Responsibilities of Individual Board Members Each individual board member is expected to:

• Know PicklePlex®’s mission, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose
• Faithfully read and understand PicklePlex®’s financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings
• Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for PicklePlex®
• Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for PicklePlex® to advance its mission
• Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to achieve PicklePlex®’s mission
• Help identify personal connections that can benefit PicklePlex®’s fundraising and reputational standing, and influence public policy
• Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
• Participate fully in one or more committees, taskforces, or special assignments
• Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the community we serve
• Respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and PicklePlex®
• Uphold the legal duties and laws regarding nonprofit governance
• Follow PicklePlex®’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
• Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
• Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of PicklePlex®
Board terms/participation
PicklePlex®’s Board Members serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings are held twice monthly, on the first and third Tuesdays.
Board compensation

PicklePlex®’s Board Members do not receive any compensation for their services. Board Members are granted an annual complimentary PicklePlex® membership for each fiscal year in which they hold their position as of the fiscal year commencement.
